It plays everything we've thrown at it so far. It is also great to be able to play my.MP3 music files and.JPG slideshows from SD cards. How ridiculous is that!!!?? It gets me mad every time I have to do it. Why not just have this in the top menu, or put a button on the remote for that. OR, BETTER YET -- why not have the player DETECT if a card or disc is inserted and automatically switch to that mode!!!!! Puuuulllleeeeeaaaaze, I have an inexpensive VR3 car stereo that can do that. It will switch to disc or SD card, whichever you insert last. Now come on, why can't Denon do that?? Also, for photo slideshows, you have to search somewhere in the menus to find the setting for how long a pause you want between photos.

When we had guests over recently, we wanted to be able to narrate each slide and then jump to the next, but we had to keep pressing the back button to go back after it jumped to the next one after 10 secs. Ok, well I've vented long enough I guess. But they are the only 2 things we are unhappy about with it, especially since it is a high-end expensive player. Otherwise, the player is completely awesome -- has a nice sleek look, plays well, upscales nicely, doesn't take a very long time to load, and runs fairly quietly (although we do have it inside a closed cabinet). We have ours hooked up via HDMI cable, and the video and audio are great. No complaints there. We looked at literally EVERY brand of Blu-Ray player to find one that also has an SD card player, and at the time, this is it baby. I would say it is a worthwhile purchase. APRIL 2010 UPDATE: Up until now, this Blu-Ray player has worked flawlessly. HOWEVER, it now skips and locks up halfway through most Blu-Ray discs we've gotten from Netflix. Not sure what the problem is. We upgraded the firmware and it still has this problem. We suspect it cannot handle the newer copy-protection schemes. And the firmware updates are way too few and far between. So Denon is very poor in the support area. We are currently looking for a newer, different brand Blu-Ray player with internet connection so upgrades are much easier. We spent way too much on this Denon player for the short length of time that it has worked well.:(Please try again later. Please try again later. Moxy 4.

Levi 5.0 out of 5 stars I knew I was getting a Denon so I wasn't too worried about its performance, because I own the Denon 2500Btci. When I received it yesterday I took it out of its box, hooked it up via HDMI to my Onkyo Sr-606 AV receiver, and by the way this is in my bedroom. I set the player up in the menus which took about 2 minutes. After that I had to try it, I tried (The Dark Knight, Terminator Salvation and a few concerts like John Mayer, Rolling Stones, and George Michael). Well the movies looked amazing and the sound came alive as well, which is strange because this player supposedly doesnt decode anything, it just bitstreams it directly to your receiver. Well I have to say that my bedroom setup has never sounded like it did with the Denon 1800bd. Everything has changed, and the performance is very close to the Denon 2500Btci. But as far as the concerts, I was like WOW, especially George Michael in London. Maybe in another lifetime. I moved my Sony BDP-S350 to the master bedroom, and its connected to the TV directly and it does an okay job, but for sure it was never like any Denon I have ever tried. I own 5 Denon's now, 2 bluray's 2 dvd player and 1 receiver, and I couldnt be any happier. Thank You Denon for making products with so much passion and hard work. Please try again later. 0 out of 5 stars It is a handsome piece of equipment and it plays beautifully. It is very easy to control with the remote and I couldn't ask for a better player. HOWEVER. If I had it to do over again I would certainly look somewhere else. Updating the firmware in this player is a royal pain in the tush. The update file is available from the Denon website but you must enter your password, model, serial number, where you bought it, etc, etc, etc everytime you download a file. Then you must use Nero or Roxio to burn a CD-R data disk using very precise settings or the player will not accept it. I have never been able to get the player to accept one of my burned update disks yet. This has caused me to have to contact Denon by phone and request them to mail an update disk to me. In order for them to send a disk you must provide them, either by fax or e-mail, a copy of your receipt, the model and serial number. Once the customer service person receives the info he will then send a request to the Denon corporate office for them to send the update disk. Once you finally receive the disk and put it into the player, there is a very specific sequence of keystrokes you must press on the remote in order for the update to begin. The instructions say to do the keystrokes within 1 to 2 secoinds. You must do it very fast, within about one second, in order for it to work. Anyway. See what I mean!? Please do yourself a favor and look somewhere else. There are plenty of wifi units out there that update themselves automatically over the internet. Please try again later. Please try again later. Quick navigation The Denon DVD-1800BD goes about its business without frustrating pauses or unreasonable waiting times. The cursor skips quickly around the clear, colourful setup menu (which is split into Quick and Custom modes) and loads discs up in under a minute, which is faster than early generation players. The remote blends intuitive button layout with an ergonomic shape and good-looking brushed aluminium finish. Rich high-def pictures Hellboy II is an excellent showcase for the Denon's capabilities. The movie's animated opening scenes are a real treat, looking sharp as a box of tacks and painted in rich, noise-free colours that give the stylised animation bucketloads of depth and three-dimensionality. And when it gets to the live action stuff, the DVD-1800BD copes equally well. Hellboy's skin is an utterly convincing shade of red, and the deck's meticulous video processing picks out every pixel of detail during the eye-popping troll market scene. Prosthetic effects, textured costumes and intricate set designs are reproduced with the sort of crispness and clarity that makes them almost seem tangible. What's even more impressive is that this top-notch detail handling continues into dark scenes; check out the detail on the walls as Prince Nuada practises his fight moves in the subway. Impressive upscaling We also took the Denon for a spin with the Silicon Optix HQV test disc and it performed very well: jaggies are minimal on the rotating bar patterns, and detail is steady and noise-free as the camera pans across the empty stadium during the Film Resolution Loss test. But its performance with this disc isn't as slick and assured as its similarly priced rivals. The same can be said about movie playback, which is fantastic but lacks that extra wow-factor. The Denon is, however, a marvellous DVD upscaler that squeezes every last drop of detail from the SD picture without producing any unwanted artefacts.

Meaty sonics With the HDMI output channelled through the Onkyo TX-NR906, Hellboy II 's DTS HD Master Audio soundtrack sends shivers down the spine. The scene in which he battles the massive Forest God is a treat for the ears: effects crash around the soundstage, big meaty explosions pound the walls and the pin-sharp detail compels you to listen. The excitement and detail levels drop slightly with the Denon converting to PCM over HDMI, but it's still an impressive performer. Where the deck really earns its stripes is with music CD playback through the analogue outputs, which sounds classier and more detailed than your average budget player. Worse still is the fact that, unlike many decks at this price point (and a few cheaper ones besides), the DVD-1800BD lacks BD-Live support, which will be a turn-off for those wanting the complete Blu-ray experience. The lack of HD audio decoding is also disappointing. So the Denon DVD-1800BD will only appeal to those who don't give two hoots about BD-Live, but do care about good picture and sound quality, and on that score it certainly delivers. But while its performance is undoubtedly better than most of the budget decks on sale, there are similarly priced players from the likes of Panasonic and Pioneer that raise the bar even further. Learn more It doesn't take long to see where your money's going, though: the DVD-1800BD is a chunky, solidly built unit, with a tasteful, understated black (or silver) finish and a pleasing lack of clutter on the fascia. There's a good-sized display panel, too, which makes all the crucial info easy to read, and there's also an SD card slot for playing back music, video and pictures. HD audio The DVD-1800BD is a Profile 1.1 player that allows you to access BonusView material, but not BD-Live online extras. Not everyone will be bothered by the latter's absence, but if we were spending this much on a player we'd want it to do everything the format offered. The rear panel covers the basics, including an HDMI output with full Deep Colour support, component video and electrical digital audio outputs, but there are no multichannel analogue audio outputs, so you'll need a receiver with HDMI inputs and the relevant decoding to take advantage of HD audio formats. The deck can bitstream Dolby True HD and DTS HD Master Audio soundtracks from the HDMI output, but when converting these formats into PCM it only extracts the 5.1 Dolby Digital or DTS core, which means you'll lose the extra sonic detail offered by the hi-def audio formats. Video pedants can fiddle with the image ad nauseam thanks to the colour, contrast, brightness, sharpness, gamma correction and noise reduction settings, all of which are accessed from the useful Mode button on the remote. Finally, the deck offers excellent digital media support. You can play DiVX files from DVD or CD, as well as MP3, WMA and JPEG files.
